Peter Murfett Team Leader: (Rotary Club of Hobart)

Peter Murfett has been a member of the Rotary Club of Hobart in Tasmania for some 26 years and is presently an Assistant Governor. He was President of his Club in 2005-06, has been a Director of the Club for several years and has held several committee chairman roles.

 

Peter is Director of his company Murfett Management Pty Ltd and is an Associate of KPMG. He was previously a Director in Consulting with KPMG for 14 years. A Certified Practicing Accountant and a Justice of the Peace, his consulting activities concentrate on executive recruitment, strategic directions, management advice, facilitation and organisation review.

 

He has always been active in his community and has previously held voluntary national positions in three organisations, including the Heart Foundation. He is presently Chairman of the Board of St Michael's Collegiate School and Secretary/Treasurer of the Tasmania Chapter of the Institute of Management Consultants.

 

 

Leanne Carlon, (Rotary Club of Youngtown)

Leanne Carlon is 34 years old and is sponsored by the Rotary Club of Youngtown. Leanne manages the Tasmanian peak sport and recreation body for people with a disability - TASRAD.

 

Leanne's role is to support the inclusion of people with a disability in sport and recreation from local club participation through to elite competition such as the Paralympics. Additionally, Leanne lectures at the University of Tasmania in "Adapted Physical Activity" and acts as the Launceston City Council's Access Officer where she is employed to encourage the community to provide access for all and to celebrate diversity. Leanne is also studying part-time for her Masters at UTAS in the School of Management.

 

Leanne lives in Launceston, and is completing the renovation of a federation style home. She has a cocker spaniel/dachshund named Henrietta who she enjoys spoiling with attention. Leanne is a keen sports person and is in training to compete in the coming season's triathlon series. She also loves spending time with friends, bushwalking, gardening and eating dessert.

 

Isabel Gardner, (Rotary Club of Central Launceston)

 

Isabel Gardner is 30 years old and is sponsored by the Rotary Club of Central Launceston. Isabel lives in Launceston in Tasmania's north and works for Australia's leading telecommunications company, Telstra. Her role is in sales and account management for business customers.

 

Isabel holds an Arts Degree (majoring in French Literature) and a Graduate Diploma in Business Administration. Isabel has previously worked in Brisbane and Sydney in project coordination and recruitment.

 

Outside of work Isabel is very active and enjoys long distance running and bushwalking. She enjoys foreign cultures and travel and was fortunate enough to live in Switzerland for 2 years in 1995 &endash; 1997. She has visited countries in Europe, North America and Australasia.

Shane LeFevre, (Rotary Club of Ulverstone) 

Shane LeFevre is 39 years old and is sponsored by the Rotary Club of Ulverstone. Shane lives in Devonport, which is the gateway to Tasmania via the passenger ferry service from Melbourne. He has recently divorced and has two children, Kieren aged 11 years and Emma aged 9 years. Shane is a career police officer with 20 years of service and is the Officer in Charge of the Ulverstone Police Station on the North-West Coast.

 

Shane is currently performing an administrative role with Tasmania Police, however, he has a wide range of operational experiences including Traffic Services, Drug Investigation, Criminal Investigation and more recently participated in writing and managing a National Counter Terrorism Exercise. He is currently vying for promotion to the Commissioned Officer rank and regularly relieves at the rank of Inspector, in charge of upwards of 60 personnel.

 

Shane has recently completed a Graduate Certificate in Contemporary Policing at the University of Tasmania and also the Public Sector Management Program offered through Macquarie University in New South Wales.

 

Shane is interested in 4 wheel driving, camping, fishing, riding his motorcycle and spending time with his family. He enjoys entertaining and making new friends.

 

Kelly Smith (Rotary Club of West Tamar)

Kelly Smith is 28 and is sponsored by the Rotary Club of West Tamar. Kelly has a Batchelor of Human Movement and is a teacher at Riverside High School. She teaches Health and Physical Education, Home Economics and Languages. In addition to classroom teaching Kelly has recently been involved in Drug Awareness Programs for parents and students and actively encourages students to become life long participants in physical activity through coaching a variety of sporting teams.

 

Kelly is a keen sportswoman and currently plays softball, hockey and badminton. She has represented Tasmania in softball for many years. She lives in Launceston with her partner Ben and their two Labrador dogs. Her personal interests include recreational fishing, cray fishing, going to the gym and spending time with family and friends.
