Peter Murfett of the Rotary Club of Hobart has been appointed to the position of Rota
ry International District Governor for 2011-12 from 1 July 2011.
DG Peter's message...
"Welcome to 2011-12. It is going to be a great year for Rotary in District 9830.
How do I know that? It is evident from the wealth of talent and passion amongst the Rotarians with whom I have come into contact through our various training sessions – Leaders; PETS; and District Assembly - probably the best attended in recent years."
"RI President Kalyan Banerjee has a personal message for Rotarians:
"Rotary is the greatest organisation in the World today. It encompasses both friendship and the dynamism of change, of progress, of serving other people, taking care of other people, and working for peace. Are we living up to our full potential? If not, what would you like to do about it?" "
During an installation ceremony last week, he said some of his main goals for the coming year will be to build the Rotary brand and encourage cooperation with local government authorities in meeting challenges in local communities. The District will also assist with funding some local Club projects.
"As local leaders and volunteers, Rotarians can help find community solutions to local needs," he said. “Innovation and new approaches will be sought and an international water project with a Rotary District in north-western India is being developed,” he said.
Rotary clubs are involved in a wide range of local and international service activities. For example Tasmanian Rob Pennicott is presently circumnavigating Australia and, in conjunction with Rotary, raising invaluable funds for Rotary’s campaign to eradicate polio in the world.
A management consultant and company director, Peter contributes to the community in many ways. He is a Director of St Lukes Health and the Royal Hobart Hospital Research Foundation, and immediate past Chairman of St Michael’s Collegiate School.
