Emergency Medical Information Book

A community service project from the Ambulance Service and your Rotary Club.

What is the Emergency Medical Information Book?
When an ambulance is called, a typical scenario is that distraught family members are unable to give any details of the patient's condition, or the medication they may be on. The paramedics physically have to collect all the patient’s medication in the house, obtain a medical history, and take it to the hospital with the patient. This takes time and can use up valuable minutes. This is where the emergency medical information book can help.

This small book contains patient medical information, medications and medical conditions and is designed to be kept on the fridge door so that paramedics can quickly ready a patient for transport to hospital.

This program was developed by Rotary in conjunction with paramedics in S.A. and now runs throughout Australia and New Zealand. It is a District supported community service project and is run in conjunction with the Tasmanian Ambulance Service.

Who should have one of these books?
Elderly people, children and adults with chronic or mild medical conditions, in fact anyone with a medical condition. The book should be completed by the owner (patient) together with their doctor.

How can the books be distributed? The books can be distributed to residents of retirement villages, through shopping centre promotions, doctors surgeries, pharmacies and hospitals. Distribution boxes are available free of charge from the District Officer, Rodney Spinks.

How much do the books cost?
The books cost $1.10 each for a minimum order of 250. This includes personalising the front cover with your club's name. Gold coin donations can be accepted when distributing the books to help make the project self funding.

How to order?
EMI books can be ordered by completing an order form and sending it to the Tasmanian Ambulance Service. Order forms are available on the District web site and distribution boxes are available from the District Officer.
