Our conference on Sunday morning will feature the electrifying performance of Tasmania€s own Robyn Moore, Australia€s most in€demand female speaker. A multi€skilled communicator who has been in the business of creating and changing peoples' perception for almost 30 years, Robyn will be talking to delegates about how they take the messages from the conference into their lives and into the service of their Clubs. A not€to€be€missed presentation!

Stuart Heal is our current RI Director representing Zones 7 and 8 which include Australia, New Zealand, the South Pacific and the Philippines. He is a member of the RC of Dunedin (NZ) and was DG of District 9980 in 1999€“2000. Stuart has become known as a ‘mover and shaker’ at RI Board level€”he chairs the RI Strategic Planning Committee and is a member of the Council on Legislation Advisory Committee and the Future Vision Committee. His Rotary career has included a close association with GSE as team member and District Chair, and a host ‘father’ for several exchange students. Update 5 May 2012

As is often the case one keynote speaker, Rear Admiral Tim Barrett, has been called overseas on urgent business at that time and will be replaced by Captain Colin Dagg, Chief Staff Officer in the Navy. In addition we have keynote speakers RI Foundation Trustee Ashok Mahajan from Mumbai India; RI Director Stuart Heal from New Zealand; Michael Ossipoff, Telstra Director Capability and Innovation; the well known Robyn Moore; and our close friend Rob Pennicott. Update 30 March 2012 -Two more key presenters at the District Conference.

We are honoured that a current Rotary Foundation Trustee, Ashok Mahajan, will be the RI President€s Representative at our Conference 25 - 27 May.

Ashok is also a Member of the International Polio Plus Committee and Nominating Committee for the President of Rotary International 2012-13; a Liaison Trustee for the Foundation Permanent Fund in India; and a Member of the Rotary Club of Mulund in Mumbai.

We look forward to hearing about the world of Rotary and the Rotary Foundation from Ashok.

We are also delighted to have Chris Joscelyne as our MC and a Keynote Speaker. Chris has been a Rotarian since 1973 when he was a charter member of the Rotary Club of Kings Meadows in Launceston. He is a Past President of the Rotary Club of Grafton, and a Past President of the Rotary Club of Sydney. He is a Past President, and current member, of Rotary E-Club One of District 5450, the first Rotary club chartered to meet on the Internet. Rotary E-Club One was chartered 10 years ago. He has been MC of several Rotary Institutes and is a multiple PHF.

Chris is a former Group Study Exchange team leader to England, and he is deeply committed to Advanced RYLA, which he introduced to the United States from Australia.

In his professional life, Chris is an international leader in IT security, involved in projects in Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, Europe and the United States. He was a co-founder of the Australian IT Security Forum.

With Stuart Heal, a Director of Rotary International, already announced as a Keynote Speaker, we believe this is the first time that this District has had a currently serving RI Director and Rotary Foundation Trustee at the same conference.

CONFERENCE BIKE-RIDE

Yes, it is on again, the great Conference Bike-Ride takes place on Friday May 25 starting at Cornelian Bay, Hobart. Please pass this information on to all your club members.

This Ride has become a tradition in association with our District Conference to aid the work on mental health research by Australian Rotary Health.

For those who have not participated in the past - riders seek sponsorships from friends which are paid for you covering the 30 kilometres or so of the ride in company with other Rotarians and their friends. It is a great way to build more friendships at the same time as supporting a worthy Rotary cause. A notice of the ride and sponsorship form is attached.

Riders will meet with our Organiser, Rotarian Martin Schroter of the RC of Sorell, at Cornelian Bay at 12 noon for a 12.30pm start on Friday 25 May and travel over two bridges and parts of both the Eastern and Western shores of the Derwent River.

It is a fun time and, while we also want you to come to the Conference, you can join in this event by itself. Please indicate your participation to schroter@netspace.net.au .

Some riders participate each year and once they raise $2000 in donations, qualify for the special YELLOW JERSEY. If you hunger for a Yellow Jersey complete the attached form and return to schroter@netspace.net.au

Relections

I am on Peter Murfett's 2012 District Conference Committee and will be preparing the Reflections Service for this. It is a sad and difficult time for both families and club members when someone they love and care for passes away. I would like each friend in Rotary that we reflect on to be remembered with the respect they deserve. To this end, I am asking that as soon as someone who should be remembered at our District Conference passes away, you contact me at the email below:

family@rotaryhobart.org

If I am aware ASAP, then we can work on collecting information to be included in the Service. However, to give you an indication, to prepare for the reflection service, and to remember our friend with dignity, please collect the following information to send to me as soon as you are able:

*   a photo of the person
*   name of Rotary Club
*   date of passing, date of birth
*   how long they were a member of the Club
*   positions held within the Club
*   a few lines about the person, such as how they contributed to the Club, and the community, etc.

Thank you. Remember, not just Club members can be included in the Reflection service, partners of Rotarians, and members of the public who have been supported by your Club can also be remembered, such as GSE members, exchange students, RYLArians, and so forth.

If I can be of any assistance in preparing for remembrance at our Conference, please let me know. Thank you for your time.

Warm wishes, Trina D'Orazio
