DGN Ross Carlyle (Penny) Sandy Bay

Ross has lived in Sandy Bay for the past 13 years and has been a member of the Rotary Club of Sandy Bay since 2005. Penny and Ross married in 1977 and have three adult children and two grandchildren.
Ross first joined the Rotary Club of North Launceston in 1987-8 and was a member for over 3 years prior to taking a career opportunity in Melbourne. After returning to Tasmania in 2003, Ross subsequently joined the Rotary Club of Hobart briefly before transferring to Sandy Bay. At Sandy Bay he has served as a Director in portfolios including Administration, Community Service, Vocational & New Generations, International & Foundation, and as Vice President and Sergeant-at-Arms. This year Ross is AG for Group 3, and on the District Membership Committee.
Ross’s professional life has been mostly as a corporate retailer holding General Management/Senoir Executive positions with Gunns Kilndried Timber Industries Ltd., Burns Philp Ltd., Dahlsens Building Centres Pty Ltd., and Mitre 10 Australia Ltd.
More recently he established and operated ‘The Paint Shop’ in Hobart growing it from a Greenfield site to the largest PaintRight store in Australia. Ross sold the business and retired in late 2014.
Ross is active as a Company Director (GAICD). He is a former Group Leader of 1st Eaglemont Scouts, a former Director of PaintRight Ltd, and a former Director of North Hobart Cricket Club.
The family: Penny is a secondary maths/science teacher and plans to retire in the ‘not too distant future’. Beth is a cellist and lives in England with her husband and two daughters. Andrew is a chemical engineer/business analyst and has been President of Sandy Bay Rotaract Club and District 9830 Rotaract Representative. Catherine (daughter) is doing business studies and has been Treasurer of Sandy Bay Rotaract Club.
Penny and Ross enjoy travelling, bushwalking, contemporary arts, wine, time at the shack, and catching up with family.
