Bets is
a Registered Nurse who has a
doctoral degree in public health
and has been teaching at the
University Texas Medical Branch
for over 30 years.
Bets
public health interests are in
the prevention of violence
[particularly domestic
violence], the prevention and
treatment of breast cancer, and
in health promotion in
communities in general.
Bets
'dabbles' in watercolor and loves
art of all kinds. She is a also a
lover of nature, especially bird
watching, and I enjoy kayaking
[but not whitewater].
Actually, she enjoys anything on,
near or in the water. Bets hopes
that she is able to connect with
someone in public health and in
higher education of health
professionals.

Joel
Hambright was born and raised in
Clovis, a small farm and railroad
town in New Mexico.After growing
up with the constant wind and a
desolate landscape typical of the
Eastern New Mexico High Plains,
Joel decided to pursue a career
in forestry a career that
would ensure a work atmosphere of
trees and water.Joel left New
Mexico and headed for the great
state of Texas where he attended
Texas A&M University in
College Station, and earned a
degree in Forest Management in
1994.After graduation he was
hired by the Texas Forest Service
and spent five years as a
District Forester in Cleveland
and four as District Forester in
Huntsville.Joel was promoted to
Regional Forester in 2003.As
Regional Forester he is
responsible for providing
leadership, management, and
supervision to the regions seven
field offices, and to
continuously evaluate and assess
their program delivery.He is a
member of the Society of American
Foresters and Texas Forestry
Association.He serves as the
Professional Recognition Chair
for the state society and is an
active member in his church where
he serves as an usher.His wife
Amy is a pharmacist at Wal-mart,
and they have been married for 12
years.They live in Huntsville,
Texas and have two active
three-year old boys, Nathan &
Gabriel, whom were adopted from
Russia in 2003.Joel's hobbies
include running, golf, fishing,
watching collegiate sports,
working in the yard, and spending
time with his family.

Alan Gaulding
Farmer

Alan
Gaulding was born and
raised in Southeast Texas. He
attended Texas A&M University
and graduated in 1998 with a BS
in Mechanical Engineering
TechnologyWhile at Texas A&M
he participated in the A&M
Band and Corps of Cadets.
Upon
graduation, Alan took a job at
Lynntech, a product development
firm, in College Station.After 2
¬½ years, Alan left Lynntech
and began contract engineering
for several years with Alstom,
and General Dynamics.He finally
has returned to the family farm
to start a career in rice
farming. He currently leases the
land and equipment from his
family to farm 125 acres of rice
and 30 acres of crawfish.Alan has
just completed his second year in
the rice industry and has
successfully harvested two crops
of rice.He is also actively
involved with some of the other
area farmers in investigating
utilizing sugar cane to covert
the sugar to ethanol.

Jimeca
Sims was born and raised in
Midland, Texas. She received her
Bachelor of Architecture degree,
from Prairie View A&M
University, in May 2002.
Currently she is employed as
Intern Architect, at Michael
Gaertner Architects (MGA). The
firm is located in the downtown
historic district The
Strand in Galveston, Texas.
MGA specializes in historic
restoration, and provides design
services for new construction,
master planning, and interior
projects. Jimeca is actively
involved in all phases of the
various projects, most recently
serving as project manager, on a
100 year old church, where she
incorporated a new addition in to
the historic
rehabilitation.
Jimeca
takes pleasure in participating
in the Galveston Historic
Foundation, spending time with
her family and enjoying
life.While pursuing her degree
she was greatly influenced by
International design. Shortly
after graduation she participated
in a summer, Desert Architecture
Tour; which incorporated the
study of ancient civilization and
fascinating historic remains of
adobe dwellings and pueblos.
Jimeca strives to take advantage
of every opportunity to explore a
wide range of defined
architecture.
The
Group Study Exchange program will
help broaden her personal and
professional outlook. While in
Tasmania, she desires to interact
with fellow interns and
architects to exchange personal
views and conceptual perspectives
on the field of architecture. She
hopes to gain incite from their
knowledge, training, and
experience. She is excited to
have been selected to participate
in the Group Study Exchange to
Tasmania, Australia, and embraces
the opportunity to be inspired
for many years to come.

Hinch

Wesley
Hinch is a proud Texan.
The practicing attorney, husband
and father of two earned his
Bachelors degree in Philosophy
and English, from Baylor
University in Waco, Texas in 1992
and, after teaching ESL and
Special Education in a rural
public school, attended law
school at Indiana University,
earning a Juris Doctorate in
1996. Since that time, Wesley's
legal practice has spanned both
the public and private sectors in
the United States and Mexico and
has included service as a
briefing attorney for the Texas
9th Circuit Court of
Appeals.
In
2004, Wes established a private
law office in Liberty County,
where he maintains an active
civil (non criminal disputes
including family law) and
criminal law practice. Wes
handles personal injury lawsuits,
contract disputes, sales of
businesses and business
formation, criminal defense, real
estate transactions and disputes,
divorces, child custody suits,
adoptions, oil and gas leases,
water law issues, and general
business matters (serving as
counsel for several family owned
businesses).In addition, he
serves as the prosecutor for a
local municipality.
Wesley
is active in his community,
serving on the Board of Directors
of his local Credit Union and the
Lower Trinity River Groundwater
Conservation District, and
working to protect the interests
of neglected and abused
children.
Wesley
and his wife, Kimber, are the
proud parents of two beautiful
children, Hannah Grace, 7 and
John Emmerson (Jack), 6.As a
family they enjoy traveling,
working with their church and
local schools, fishing, and many
outdoor sports.
Wes is very interested in
issues regarding law and
government, education, and
economic development. However, he
is very flexible. He has heard
that Tasmania has fantastic
recreational opportunities in
Tasmania and hopes to see some of
Tasmania's wonderful natural
resources.
