District Simplified Grants
Applications for Rotary Clubs in D9830 for DISTRICT SIMPLIFIED GRANT (DSG) for local and International humanitarian projects that benefit the community and/or improve the lives of the economically disadvantaged are now open.

Applications are subject to DSG Terms and Conditions and should be forwarded to the District Grants Committee Chair, Lew Pretorius before the deadline of 30th September 2011.
.Based on the Foundation’s figures, DISTRICT 9830 is entitled to approximately $ Aud 10,000 for use on District Simplified Grants in the 2011-2012 Rotary year. This amount will be shared by the successful clubs.
DSG’s require the direct involvement of Rotarians by:-
- Assessment of community needs.
- Development of a project plan.
- Establishment of a committee of at least three Rotarians to oversee and report every 3 mths on the expenditure of funds until the project is completed. This is a strict requirement that must be adhered to.
- Oversight of grant funds.
- Provision of evidence of community involvement and ownership.
- Organization of meetings with local service providers, local officials and/or recipients.
- Promotion of projects in the local media.
Grant funds cannot be used:-
- For the purchase of land and buildings.
- For the renovation of structures.
- For salaries, stipends or honorariums for an individual working for a cooperating organization.
- To support the operating or operating expenses of any organization.
- For post-secondary education activities, research, or personal or professional development.
- For international travel.
There are many needs in your own communities you are aware of. Alternatively your club may care to join other clubs in our District to support an overseas project such as the “Gift of Sight Project” in February 2011 which was supported by Deloraine, Latrobe, Longford and Central Launceston Clubs. A party of Rotarians and Partners also participated in this project in Nepal.

Examples of Club utilization of simplified grant funds within D9830 communities have been :-
- Community Barbecue shelter
- Syringe Drive for Palliative Care Unit and heater for Dementia Unit old aged home.
- Gymnasium equipment for rehabilitation facility for young offenders and their families.
- Community Seating.
DEADLINE for your application lodgement is:- 30th SEPTEMBER 2011.
Successful clubs will be notified by 15th October 2011.To facilitate your application you must::-
- COMPLETE ALL SECTIONS OF THE APPLICATION.
- COMPLETE THE CHECKLIST PAGE 4 OF THE APPLICATION FORM
Please note;- should you be successful with your application, you will need to attach a club bank statement showing receipt and dispersal of all grant funds with your final report to the District.
In line with all Rotary Foundation funds terms and conditions, the funds cannot be used to directly benefit a Rotarian; or a spouse, lineal descendant/partner descendants (by blood or legally adopted child).
In addition to the three Rotarians who are required to oversee your club project, the District is required to have a further three district officers to assist, namely, DG Peter Murfett, Kevin Shadbolt (Foundation Chair), and Lew Pretorius (Grants Chair) . All members of both committees must serve for the entire length of the project, even if it extends into future Rotary years.
