Support for Emergencies - Local and International
Rotary International in Australia sees it's major role in disasters as a "second line "approach. Rotary will normally leave first response to the emergency authorities.
Our role is seen to be in the recovery process. With Rotary Clubs spread throughout we are well equipped to support recovery initiatives after the immediate disaster has passed. ,
Funds are administered by our Rotary Tasmania's Emergency Relief Committee . Tax deductable donations can sometimes be arranged through RAWCS (Rotary Australia World Community Service)
There are two Rotary endorsed organisations that do support immediate emergency relief

Update on Japan Earthquake support
Rotary International
The Rotary Foundation has established the Rotary Japan and Pacific Islands Disaster Recovery Fund to support long-term recovery in areas devastated by the massive earthquake and tsunami. Rotarians and non-Rotarians can donate online. Clubs and districts can contribute cash and District Designated Fund (DDF) allocations to the fund.

Disaster Aid Australia-17 March 2011
Advice received from the Australian, UK and Canadian governments has made it clear to us that our humanitarian aid is not required at this time. Should that change we will publish a further update.
The Japanese Consulate also suggested we encourage, "donations to the Red Cross".
We sincerely thank our faithful donors for their support, but again need to make it clear that we cannot accept location specific donations until the authorities advise if and when our humanitarian aid is needed
Disaster Aid Australia, together with our international partners, Canada, USA, UK and Ireland around 12 March offered our assistance to The Hon. Foreign Minister, Mr Kevin Rudd an
d AusAID. Within Rotary, RI President Ray Klinginsmith and RI President Elect Kalyan Banjeree have also been contacted to enable a Rotary response to this devastating disaster.
We confirmed the availability of 1,000 humanitarian aid packs stored in Shanghai and that together with our fully trained DARTs (Disaster Aid response teams, who are on standby) could be deployed to arrive within 72 hours, if required. All aid has been donated by Rotarians and other generous donors around the world.

Christchurch / Canterbury - New Zealand - 22nd Feb Earthquake Appeal –:
through Rotary N.Z. World Community Service (RNZWCS Ltd.)
On 3 April 2011 Rotary Tasmania presented $20 960 to New Zealand Rotary for their appeal.
Civil Defence, Red Cross, Salvation Army, Christchurch Local Authorities and other professional groups as “trained first responders” are making sure communities are safe and secure in the initial recovery phase.
Again, a number of individual Rotarians are likely assisting their neighbours and community.
Rotary’s response will be coordinated to those most in need, particularly those who may fall outside the support from government and other agencies, in the community.
The greatest need therefore from Rotarians worldwide is money. We thank those who have contributed to the previous Sept 4th 2010 appeal.
“It is too early to say exactly what the money will be used for.
Rest assured that it will go to those most in need as we would expect if we were sending funds overseas to Rotary clubs / districts.
We will work with other agencies.
At the moment most Rotarians in the city are suffering some sort of trauma themselves as a result of going through this continuing ordeal, losing property to some degree and now the causalities that have inevitably resulted will affect a number as well .
In true Rotary spirit, we will be good stewards of Rotary dollars.”
For the Rotary International community, our request is:

Australian Flood Disaster
The Tasmanian Government matched Rotary District 9830, Tasmania, dollar for dollar on fundraising for the Queensland Floods up to a maximum of $250,000 from the Tasmanian Government.
On 5 May 2011 DG Ted met with Premier Lara Giddings and been given $167,152, the State Governments contribution to our Queensland Flood Appeal. This will be paid into the D9830 Flood Appeal account.
Rotary raised twice as much as the three other service clubs combined. With the $718,886 already accounted for, this gives us a total of $886,038, an absolutely incredible result and one the every Rotarian and every Rotary club can feel very, very proud of. Once again, DG Ted congratulates you all on your generosity, your organising skill and your hard work and thank you for once again showing the world the power of Rotary.
We have many Rotary Clubs in the disaster area available to help and they are amongst the first on hand to provide support. All the money donated gets to the people in need, no administration charges are needed as the money goes from our Rotary District to the District in need,
The Appeal closed on March 31.
The money raised will be used to rebuild a Community Centre at Murphys Creek.
