District 9830 Youth Driving Awareness Report
Symmons
Plains 2008 and State-wide 2009
Symmons
Plains 2008
During
late October and early November, a total of 1170 grade 10 students from 16
schools participated in the Rotary Youth Driving Awareness (RYDA) program. This represented an 18% increase in numbers
attending the Symmons Plains RYDA sessions from 2007.
All
major schools in Launceston participated in RYDA. It was very pleasing to have country schools

Although
this was a great outcome for the RYDA program, and in keeping with the Rotary
ethos “that no student will miss out on the program because of the cost”, two
schools participated free of charge on the understanding that next year both
schools will participate as full paying schools. To cover this extraordinary expense, I will
be asking each club in Groups 4, 5 and 6 to donate $150.00 to RYDA Limited –
District 9830.

The
2008 RYDA program concluded on Dec 1 with 89 students participating in a RYDA
session at Smithton.
In
summary in District 9830 in 2008, 3055 students from 32 schools across

The
outlook for 2009 is very good. In the
Southern region, additional schools are expected to participate in the RYDA
program to surpass the number of students participating in 2008.

On
the North West Coast, additional schools from Penguin to Wynyard will
participate at
While
the participation level by schools in the North is at a high level, the number
of students participating in RYDA is expected to increase because, at various
schools, there are a significant number of students who chose not to
participate in RYDA in 2008.
I
wish to take the opportunity to congratulate all Rotarians involved on regional
committees and those who volunteered their help on RYDA program days
