ROTARY SHOE BOX SCHEME
The Shoebox Scheme is a humanitarian aid
programme managed by Rotary to allow children and members of the community to
be involved in providing aid and an act of goodwill to the less fortunate.
The Scheme is simple, in that your
Rotary Club obtains a supply of the special shoeboxes from the Rotary Area
Representative.
The Rotary Club then distributes the boxes to groups such as schools, local
community groups and Probus Clubs etc, to be filled with the items listed. By visiting schools and local groups
there is an opportunity to describe the scheme and to give an explanation of
Rotary. The filled boxes are collected by the
Rotary Club, forwarded to store, and then transported to locations of need in
international and local communities. The Scheme has been discussed with
the Tasmanian Department of Education and approval received to approach state
schools. The contact in the first instance must be with the School Principal
who will decide if the school will be involved.
Current destinations include South
Pacific Island communities.
