ROTARY FRIENDSHIP EXCHANGE

The Rotary Friendship Exchange Program  is an activity where Rotarians and their families carry out reciprocal visits, living for a few days in the homes of Rotarians and their families in other countries. The goal of the program is to foster International understanding, goodwill and peace through person to person contacts across national boundaries. Costs vary and are met by Rotarians

Have you ever thought of spending a holiday in another country as a guest of people in that country, living in their homes and being shown around by them, eating their food, experiencing their culture and possibly making life long friends. Then the opportunity is available to do just that.

Many of you have experienced Rotary Friendship Exchange as the program has been operating for many years and some of you have hosted.

Please consider your participation in this excellent programme.    For this years program click here

Amazing Fundraising Effort for ShelterBox by Miandetta Primary School

George Lockwood and Leigh Iles travelled to Devonport to the Miandetta Primary School in December 2008 to do a presentation on ShelterBox. Following the presentation to the school(260 pupils) and staff, a cheque for $1,200 was presented to Leigh. The money was raised by various methods led by 4 pupils and Gerard Enniss (grade 5/6 teacher).
"Just goes to show what can be done no matter how small the group is."

Pledges given to Des Watts whilst on his Tassie leg of the round around Australian journey in September 2008 has contributed to a grand total of 26 ShelterBoxes being sponsored.

ROTARY SHOE BOX SCHEME

The Shoebox Scheme is a humanitarian aid programme managed by Rotary to allow children and members of the community to be involved in providing aid and an act of goodwill to the less fortunate.

The Scheme is simple, in that your Rotary Club obtains a supply of the special shoeboxes from the Rotary Area Representative.
The Rotary Club then distributes the boxes to groups such as schools, local community groups and Probus Clubs etc, to be filled with the items listed.  By visiting schools and local groups there is an opportunity to describe the scheme and to give an explanation of Rotary.  The filled boxes are collected by the Rotary Club, forwarded to store, and then transported to locations of need in international and local communities.  The Scheme has been discussed with the Tasmanian Department of Education and approval received to approach state schools. The contact in the first instance must be with the School Principal who will decide if the school will be involved.

Current destinations include South Pacific Island communities.

The goods collected filled forty one shoeboxes for the Rotary Shoe Box Scheme. Surplus funds raised were presented at a special school assembly to DG Michael and RC West Tamar representative, Barry Easther for transmission to the Susu School.
