Queensland Flood Relief Program
Around $911 000 was raised by Rotary District 9830, Tasmania. Negotiations are under way to replace a Community Centre at Murphys Creek Queensland's Lochnyer Valley.
The Tasmanian Government matched Rotary District 9830, Tasmania, dollar for dollar on fundraising for the Queensland Floods up to a maximum of $250,000 from the Tasmanian Government.
On 5 May 2011 District Governor(DG) Ted Richey met with Premier Lara Giddings and has been given $167,152, the State Governments contribution to our Queensland Flood Appeal. This will be paid into the District 9830 Flood Appeal account.
A Memorandum of Understanding was signed on the 4 August 2011 between PDG Ted Richey, the Lockyer Valley Council and the Rotary Club of Toowoomba East for the use of our $900 000 donation. More....
Rotary raised twice as much as the three other service clubs combined. With the $718,886 already accounted for, this gives us a total of $886,038, an absolutely incredible result and one the every Rotarian and every Rotary club in Tasmania can feel very, very proud of. Once again, DG Ted congratulates you all on your generosity, your organising skill and your hard work and thank you for once again showing the world the power of Rotary.
Queeensland Project Announced
It has been announced that the money will be used to build a replacement of the Community Cen
tre at Murphys Creek in the Lockyer Valley.
The project will be supervised by a Toomoomba Rotary Club and the completed project will be marked with recognition of the Rotary District 9830.
We have officially finalised the tender documentation, and begun advertising the plans for the construction of the Murphys Creek Community Centre, (MCCC). The tender documentation will be live on the LVRC internet site http://www.lockyervalley.qld.gov.au/tenders
Advertising is currently planned to span from 22/12/11 to the 03/02/12. The decision was made to extend the advertising timeline beyond the mandatory 21 days in order to provide sufficient time for builders to respond, considering that we are advertising tender during the holiday shut down period. It is planned that the tender documentation will be supplied to the Gatton Star and the Toowoomba Chronicle in the next week. It is hoped that construction will start by late February with completion in this year.
By March or April an area will be set aside with facilities for Rotarians and friends with caravans and motor homes who would like to stop over and inspect the construction on their way to warmer climates.
Update November 2011
Architectural plans are completed and the soil test for the building and CBR testing for the car park and driveway have been conducted. The floor coverings and the kitchen joinery materials plans have been sent for approval.
We are waiting on the civil engineers to give a time line for the carpark and driveway drawings but expect that will be finished at the same time. The floor coverings, laminate types and bathroom fixtures have been finalised.
PDG Ted Richey is in charge of the project.
