For the brochure providing details of the Rotary Shoebox Scheme. Click for brochure1.pdf and brochure2.pdf (both 65K)The Shoebox Scheme is a humanitarian aid programme managed by Rotary to allow children and members of the community to be involved in providing aid and an act of goodwill to the less fortunate.
The Scheme is simple, in that your Rotary Club obtains a supply of the special shoeboxes from the Rotary Area Representative.
The Rotary Club then distributes the boxes to Rotarians, schools, local community groups and Probus Clubs etc, to be filled with the items listed. By visiting schools and local groups there is an opportunity to describe the scheme and to give an explanation of Rotary.
The filled boxes are collected by the Rotary Club, forwarded to store, and then transported to locations of need in international and local communities.
The Scheme has been discussed with the Department of Education and approval received to approach state schools. The contact in the first instance must be with the School Principal who will decide if the school will be involved.
Current destinations include the Indian Ocean Tsunami Disaster locations and South Pacific Island communities.. The boxes are generally transported in shipping containers along with Donations-in-Kind goods. Recent shipments include Tanga in Tanzania, The Solomon Islands and Fiji. In all cases the goods and boxes are received by the local Rotary Clubs for sorting and distribution in the community.
The Shoebox Scheme is easy for Clubs to operate and fulfils the Rotary ethic.
We are responding to suggestions regarding the Scheme and any from your Club will be welcome.
The boxes are available NOW. Enquiries Contact Syd McClymont Rotary Club of Howrah
