STRATEGIES FOR 2017-18

GOAL 1  –   SUPPORT AND STRENGTHEN CLUBS

  • Foster Club innovation and flexibility

Assist Clubs to review current practices, implement Strategic Planning, and consider new ways to operate to ensure sustainability.

  • Encourage Clubs to participate in a variety of service activities

Encourage engagement with local and state organisations to further community service and widen Rotary’s influence.
(targeted databases, promote our successes, ‘Club awards’)

  • Promote membership and diversity

Assist Clubs in recognising diversity of membership in vocations, ethnicity, age and gender. (speaker database, membership ideas kit, Club survey)

  • Improve member recruitment and retention

Aim to grow membership in each Club each year. District target: 1,550 by June 2020.
Provide resources to Clubs to assist in member recruitment and retention.
Build a training culture in the District.
(opportunity analysis, member induction kit, membership challenge)

  • Develop leaders

Identify and encourage future leaders.
Build on ‘Future Leaders’ program.
(training opportunities at District and Zone)

  • Start a new Club

Continue demographic analysis to identify potential scope for the formation of new Club(s).(demographic/opportunity analysis)

  • Encourage Strategic Planning at Club level

Facilitate Club development and continual review of Club Strategic Plan. District target: 100%.(facilitators, templates)

  • Strengthen Club administration

Ensure Clubs meet minimum statutory requirements and Rotary International requirements.
District targets: Bylaw and constitution updated 100%, Police Checks 100%, Working With Children (WWC) card 90+%, My Rotary registration 100%.

DISTRICT AIMS AND OBJECTIVES

  • Encourage every Club to have a Strategic Plan.
  • Promote membership growth.
  • Strengthen existing Clubs by
    • Practical, open and down to earth with communications.
    • Promote the acceptance of change.
    • Attend Club meetings and support Club projects.
    • Encourage leadership opportunities for full cross section of membership.
  • Motivate District Leaders so they are knowledgeable and enthusiastic about Rotary.
  • Support Rotarian training opportunities including IT workshops.
  • Respect the ideals, goals and ethos developed by Rotarians since Rotary’s inception.
  • Encourage formation of new, satellite and e-type Clubs.

GOAL 2

FOCUS AND INCREASE HUMANITARIAN SERVICE

  • Increase sustainable service

Encourage Clubs to support the full Youth Services Program.
Encourage and facilitate Club and multi-Club cooperation in developing projects that attract worthy action and publicity.
(Club/school alignment, foster Club/school relationship, foster program support, youth alumni)

  • Eradicate polio

Encourage Clubs to support ‘End Polio Now’ until the job is done.

  • The Rotary Foundation (TRF)

Create an understanding of TRF’s ‘six areas of focus’ and support Clubs in adopting programs aligned to these both locally and internationally:
Promoting peace
Fighting disease
Providing clean water
Saving mothers and children
Supporting education
Growing local economies
(promotion of six areas of focus, guest speaker pool, promote activities undertaken, Foundation giving)

  • Rotary Australia World Community Service (RAWCS)

Create an understanding of the RAWCS activities and support Clubs identifying and participating in them.

  • Australian Rotary Health (ARH)

Create an understanding of ARH activities and support Clubs indentifying and participating in them. (eg. Hats Off for Mental Health)

  • District initiatives

The District supports several initiatives which Clubs are invited to support:
White Ribbon (domestic violence, drug and alcohol abuse), Disaster Aid, Shelter Box, Street Swags, Nepal Eye Care.

DISTRICT AIMS AND OBJECTIVES

  • Encourage Rotarians to apply their business knowledge and skills to benefit others.
  • Encourage involvement in and support for The Rotary Foundation.
  • Encourage involvement in and support for Rotary Australia World Community Service (RAWCS) including: Rotarians Against Malaria (RAM) and Rotary Australia Benevolent Society (RABS).
  • Encourage involvement in and support for Australian Rotary Health (ARH).

GOAL 3
ENHANCE PUBLIC IMAGE AND AWARENESS

  • Unify image and brand awareness

Develop, implement and monitor a Public Relations and Media plan that benefits the District.
(promote a uniform brand image, use standard format marketing material, expand distribution of RDU to ‘Friends of Rotary’)

  • Publicise action-oriented service

Develop and implement methods for publicising local activities in local, state and national media including Rotary (Zone and RI) publications/media.
(Club ‘promotions champion’, media release protocol)

  • Promote core values

Encourage ‘Core Values’ to become a way of life for all Rotarians.
(4 way test, code of conduct)

  • Emphasise vocational service

Engage with local and state business leaders to provide a greater understanding of diversity and how it can enrich both individuals and Rotary in general.
(Vocational Service Awards, network opportunities, vocational visit database, classification reviews)

  • Encourage Clubs to promote networking opportunities and signature activities

Self promotion as a means to appreciation and growth.
(promote ‘signature activities’)

DISTRICT AIMS AND OBJECTIVES

  • Encourage Clubs to liaise with schools, students, teachers, parents to promote Rotary youth projects within the District.
  • Encourage support for Rotary Vocational Service programs: Professional Development Exchange (PDE), New Generations Service Exchange (NGSE) and Vocational Training Teams.
  • Encourage Rotarians to apply their business knowledge and skills to benefit others.
  • Make District Conference accessible to external audiences, with a focus on youth.
